Focus, “Attraction”, Wants & Don’t Wants…

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I run into a lot of people who think that all they have to do to access and experience more abundance in their lives is to FOCUS on abundance and it will “magically” show up. (To be honest, I think there was a period in my life where I might have thought that too - or at least I wanted it to be true.)

I know now that that is not how the Law of Attraction works!

That’s not to say that what you focus on is not important. It is!

Focusing on the abundance you already have around you and within you (as well as on the abundance you desire) is absolutely essential - primarily because it empowers you! What you focus on impacts your energy and your actions - which ultimately is going to impact your results!

Think about it. How empowered, energized and motivated do you feel when all see and are thinking about is what you DON’T have, on what you DIDN’T do, on what’s WRONG with you? How empowered do you feel when you keep thinking that you don’t have “enough” money, “enough” time, “enough” energy and/or that you aren’t “good enough” or didn’t do “enough”?

How is that type of focus going to impact your actions?

Clearly - developing your ability to focus on abundance is necessary for you to be able to experience and attract more. That’s one element of how The Law of Attraction works.

But that does not make the Law of Attraction “magical” or “woo-woo”.

Look at the word… ATTRACTION.

Notice that “attraction” includes and ends with ACTION.

ATTRACTION

It’s in the ACTION stage that the “rubber meets the road” - so to speak.

It’s in the ACTION stage that you may encounter - as I have been encountering all week - the “I don’t want tos”.

I don’t want to make phone calls.

I don’t want to face rejection.

I don’t want to follow up on that lead.

I don’t want to be on that teleclass.

I don’t want to reply to emails.

I don’t want to take a risk.

I don’t want to pay my bills.

I don’t want to work so hard.

It’s at these critical times - when your “I don’t want tos” keep showing up (and they do for everyone!) - that you really need to pay attention to your FOCUS.

Are you focusing more on your “don’t wants” or on your “wants”?

If you keep focusing on your “don’t wants”… you’ll experience more and more of them. And your “don’t wants” will not energize you to take action. Chances are they will overwhelm, discourage or paralyze you instead. Or you’ll become desperate and take desperate action - which never supports abundance.

The fact is - even with the Law of Attraction at work - you are going to have to move through your “don’t wants” to have and experience the abundance you want.

In other words, your wants have to be stronger than your “don’t wants”. And you have to keep focusing on what you WANT in the midst of all of your “don’t wants”. That’s what I’ve been having to practice again and again all week… to remember what I want and be willing to go through my “don’t wants” to get there.

Again… attraction requires and ends with ACTION.

So - even when (or especially when!) you don’t WANT to take the action… then remember to FOCUS on the abundance you already have in and around you AND the abundance you WANT but do not yet have… and let your desire propel you into the actions you need to take.

Here’s to you AND your abundance!

Shifting For Abundance - FOCUS

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Since this is my first post, I want to use it to give you a sense of what you can look forward to learning and experiencing from reading my blog… and how it can support you in your business and your life.

Speaking of which, since you’re in the direct selling profession, I’m pretty confident that I already know something about you.

I know that you want to experience and attract greater levels of success, wealth and abundance than you currently have. I know that you want your business to grow. I’m going to bet that you want to make more money and, eventually, to experience lasting financial freedom. I also think I can safely say that you want to be able to enjoy your life - while you’re growing your business and even if, one day, you stop actively growing your business.

I also think I can safely assume that you not only want all of these things for yourself - but that you also want your direct selling friends, associates and team members to experience the same thing.

Most of all, I going to guess that you’d just as soon experience these things, (i.e., success, freedom, joy, wealth and abundance) sooner versus later - with as much EASE as possible.

I’m here to tell you that all of this is possible - with EASE - provided you’re willing to make some shifts in how you’re approaching your business, your money and your life.

And that shift begins with how you see things.

Keep in mind this universal principle of success and abundance…

What you FOCUS on the most is where your energy will flow
and is what will show up and grow in your life.

So - if you want money, freedom, joy, success, wealth and abundance to show up in your business and your life, you need to FOCUS on it.

But that’s not about focusing on having it ONE DAY… it’s about focusing on having it RIGHT NOW. It’s about recognizing and focusing on the success, joy, freedom and abundance you already have around you and within you.

I can promise you this. If you don’t recognize or see abundance, you won’t ever experience abundance - no matter what you do or what you have or how much you make or where you are in your company’s compensation plan.

Abundance can only come from abundance.

So the first step is to begin to intentionally train yourself to see and focus on the abundance you already have.

And one of the best tools you can use to begin your “training regimen” (and it’s one you can share with all of your associates) only takes an investment of 5-10 minutes of your time each day.

Each day, write down 10 responses (no more and no less!) to the following sentence, “Today I am grateful for….”

Then, write down 10 responses (again, no more AND NO LESS!) to this sentence, “Today I am acknowledge and praise myself for…”

Do this RIGHT NOW and you’ll understand why I say you will immediately begin experiencing greater abundance in your life. Continue to use it and that experience will begin to expand and grow.

Procrastinate and put it off until “later” or “tomorrow” and know that you’re delaying or “putting of” abundance.

The choice is yours.

If you choose to take this first step and start using this tool, let me know what you discover and experience. Let me know how it challenges you and even how you may be struggling with it.

Remember, it’s about shifting your approach - in terms of your business but also your life. And the shift I’m encouraging you and am committed to supporting you to make is to realize that the abundance you desire - and MORE - is already available to you. It’s waiting for you to ACCESS it. You do not need to struggle and “work hard” to MAKE IT HAPPEN. You simply need to release that which is blocking you from accessing, attracting and experiencing it.

Your inability to see, recognize and focus on the abundance you already have blocks your ability to have more.

Start focusing on abundance today…
Here’s to you AND your abundance!

Change, Choice, Freedom and Abundance…

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

I’ve been talking about and working with the idea of FREEDOM a lot lately.  Here in the states, we just celebrated Independence Day - the day we declared ourselves FREE of British rule. This spring I began offering a new teleclass for direct sellers called “The Financial Freedom Fast Track”.  And later this month, the first two pilot sessions of my Debt-FREE Direct Seller™ Training Program will begin.

Like I said, I’ve been talking about freedom a lot lately.

I even looked it up in the dictionary to see how it was defined.  It said that “freedom” is “the enjoyment of personal liberty; a not being a slave or prisoner”.

Over the past 13+ years, I’ve discovered that the process of accessing abundance (which, needless to say, includes freedom - financial and otherwise) requires us to regularly ask ourselves challenging questions.    I’ve been asking myself some challenging ones about freedom lately - questions like “What’s robbing me of my freedom?  What, if anything, am I imprisoned by or enslaved by?”

In my “Fast Track” teleclass and my Debt-FREE Direct Seller™ Training program, I talk about how debt robs us of our freedom - and not just our financial freedom.  That’s why becoming debt-free is such an important and necessary part of the process of accessing all of the abundance that is available to us.

But that’s not the only way we give away our freedom - that we become imprisoned.  We can also become imprisoned and enslaved by the choices we make and the thoughts and beliefs that create those choices.

I’ve REALLY been thinking about and working with this lately - and it’s all led up to me making a different (and freeing) choice.  As a result of that choice, this will be my last blog on this site and, at least for the near future, I will be taking a “leave of absence” from being one of the DSL experts.

That wasn’t an easy choice - or one I took lightly.  But as I began to consider it, especially in terms of the concept of freedom, I realized that my “heart” was telling me that I needed to give myself some space for reflection and rejuvenation.  I first began my company, Access Abundance!, nearly 13 years ago and have been growing it (AND myself!) ever since.  Lately, I’ve been practicing some of the same principles I coach my clients on.  I’ve been taking a step back and asking myself (once again), “What do I want in my life?  What is abundance to me?  What do I want my life to be about?  Who do I want to be? What do I want my business to be about and how is my business going to support and enhance my life?”

[I’m sharing these questions with you here because it will serve you to regularly ask yourself the same or similar questions.]

As I began to ask myself these questions, I began to see how “enslaved” I had become by all the commitments I have in my business - commitments that I thought I HAD to keep or couldn’t change for any of a number of (scarcity-based) reasons.  And as long as I kept running “full throttle” trying to keep all those commitments, I wasn’t able to really get clear on what I want, where my business will go and I was in REACTION rather than ATTRACTION mode.

Some of my thoughts that had been keeping me enslaved included “what will people think?” and “I don’t want to let anyone down” and “I should be able to do all of this and more” and “Once I start something, I have to finish it” and “If I don’t keep my commitments, I’m out of integrity”.  I even discovered I had been thinking ” I HAVE to keep building and growing Access Abundance! and being an “abundance coach” because that’s what people expect and/or because it’s what I’m “supposed” to be doing.”

[Question: Do you ever find yourself in REACTION versus ATTRACTION mode? If so, what are the thoughts, beliefs or “rules” you have that keep you enslaved rather than free?]

And what I realized is that if I don’t give myself the same opportunity that I encourage my clients to take to reflect, reconsider, regroup, change direction, change my mind, do something different , then I’m not walking my talk and I’m limiting myself and my abundance.  I’m imprisoning myself - I’m not enjoying personal liberty.

What I also saw is that if I’m being an “abundance coach” and continuing my business as I’ve always done it because I am afraid to consider the possibility of change, then I’m not only limiting myself, I’m doing a disservice for my clients.  At some level, I start doing it because I HAVE to and not because I WANT to.

[Note:  I hope you realize that the same holds true for you and your direct selling business.]

So, my direct selling friend, all of this has led me to make the decision to “lighten my load” for awhile and get clearer on what direction I want to take as an abundance coach, with my business and in my life.  I’m excited about the new “freedom” classes I’m teaching for direct sellers and want to bring a lot of my creative energy to those projects - which is difficult to do if I have a zillion and one other projects and commitments.

And one of those commitments I’m choosing to “let go of” - at least for the near future - is being the “Abundance Expert” on this site.  I talked with Sarah Robinson and received her full support - but that did not make my choice an EASY one.  That doesn’t change the fact, however, that is is a FREEING and empowering one.  And in choosing freedom, I am still open to the possibility that I may again soon - with greater clarity, purpose and energy - FREELY offer my support and services to you as “The Abundance Expert”.

It has been a privilege and honor to have been able to serve you through these blogs all these months.  Know that even though I’ll no longer be on this website, I’m still around!  So if you want to stay in touch and see what new directions I head in - especially in my new programs for direct sellers - come visit me at my website at www.accessabundance.com.

Remember, always, to FOCUS on and enjoy the abundance you have in your life and within yourself - each and every day!   And remember to CHOOSE freedom and abundance!

Basking in Abundance… Acting from Scarcity?

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

It’s been over a month since I last posted a blog.  In that time, I’ve been learning and experiencing a great deal about abundance.

Three weeks ago, the area in which I live (southern Wisconsin) was deluged with what they’ve been calling a 250-year flood.  Perhaps you even heard about it on national news - and the lake in Wisconsin Dells (Lake Delton) that breached its banks, took out a highway and emptied itself into the river.  It took with it five homes and immediately impacted the lives and businesses of hundreds of people in the area.  Nearby towns (places we’ve lived and/or almost moved to) are still underwater.  Business has been interrupted.  Homes destroyed.  Lives changed.

In the midst of all of this, my husband and I did our own share of bailing.  For nearly two days, we formed a two-person “bucket brigade” and bailed water out of our basement to save, among other things, our furnace.  Water got into other parts of our home - soaking carpets and a few other possessions.  At one point in that week of storms, a tornado went overhead (but, thankfully, did not touch down).  We lost power for the better part of one full day.

As exhausted as we were after two days of bailing and then a week of clean up, two weeks later our life was pretty much back to normal.  Our garden has dried out and we’re quickly planting the rest of our vegetables.  Our four acres of land needs to be mowed.  I’m back to work and so is my husband.

We were and are fortunate… because it easily have turned out differently.  Had the tornado touched down, our home would have been destroyed.  Had we still lived in Baraboo, our home would have been underwater and possibly torn off its foundation.  Had we moved to Rock Springs (as we had seriously considered), our home would have surely been condemned.

And through it all, I suddenly had a whole new understanding and experience of something I’ve been teaching for more than a decade.  Suddenly, I really knew what it meant to be grateful.  Suddenly, I realized how much I have - and we all have - to be grateful for.

And with that realization, I realized how easy it is to take the abundance that we already have in our lives for granted or, worse yet, to not even recognize it!

Having a home to live in.  Having a bed to sleep in.  Having electricity to power the refrigerator and keep our food cold.  Have a stove to cook on.  Being able to simply sit and relax.  Sunshine.  Fresh air.   A garden to plant.

Having the physical and emotional strength to keep bailing and then to deal with the fall-out after the storms.  Friends and family who care.  Having a wet vac and dehumidifier to help clean things up.  Being hugged.  Laughter in the midst of tears and struggle.  Finding a restaurant with power so you can have a nice (and dry!) meal.  A glass of wine.

Simply breathing and being ALIVE.

In the midst of all of that, I realized how often I go through my day-to-day life in scarcity, stressed and anxious, trying to get everything done that [I think] needs to be done.  How I keep thinking of abundance as a destination… something to strive for and attain by growing my business, paying off our last debts, creating a passive income.  And - while all of those things (except the stress and anxiety) are part of abundance - in the process of doing so, I often forget how ABUNDANT I already am.

In reality, we - you and me - have many different forms of abundance in our lives.  There’s the monetary abundance we enjoy that includes those things we have in our lives that are either financial in nature or are the result of us having money with which to purchase them.  Your commission check is an example of monetary abundance.  So is your house, your car, the food you eat (except when you have a vegetable garden!), the clothes you wear and the electricity that powers your stove, refrigerator as well as the computer you’re using right now.

Then there’s the non-monetary abundance we all have and often forget to appreciate and enjoy.  Sunshine.  A nice breeze.  The stars in the sky.  A smile.  A hug.  The love of a friend or family member.  Flowers.  Vegetables growing in a garden.  Trees.  Birds.  All of those things that enrich our lives that are there for us to enjoy and appreciate - no money required.

And then there’s our innate abundance - the abundance we have within ourselves and that makes us who we are.  Our gifts and talents.  Our courage and creativity.  Our sense of humor.  The love we have to share with others.

In the midst of natural disaster, I was reminded of HOW ABUNDANT I really am and always have been… and that my BEING abundant has a lot less to do with my business, my work and my income than I often practice as I go through my day to day life.  That abundance is not something I create or earn or even deserve - it is a GIFT for me to receive, enjoy and appreciate.

It was humbling to discover how even I, the “abundance expert”, can be basking in abundance yet still act like I’m in scarcity - simply because I don’t see and forget to appreciate all of the abundance I already have.

And so, from my experience, I offer this to you…

Remember that accessing and experiencing abundance in your life is not ONLY a function of what you do (or do not do) and the success you achieve (or do not achieve) in your direct selling business.  Take some time today to enjoy - to truly SAVOR - the abundance you already have in your life and to grateful for it.

That “attitude of gratitude” will have a huge impact on how you approach your business as well…

ENJOY your day!

Teresa

P.S. My next blog (next week) will be my last on this site - at least for the foreseeable future.  The reason for that and how it applies to you, your direct selling business AND your abundance is what the topic for that blog will be!  “Talk” to you then!

Are You Empowering or Disempowering Yourself?

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Hi there!

This past weekend I was the featured trainer at the annual conference for a direct selling company.  I love working with direct sellers in person so - needless to say - I had a great time.

In the process, I also reconnected with one of the most debilitating scarcity patterns or habits direct sellers have - and it sabotages their success (and yours!) all the time.  It goes right back to what I wrote about in my last blog, i.e., that your internals create your externals.

Let me give you an experience of what I’m talking about right now.

What do you see below?

 IAMNOWHERE

Did you FIRST see the words “I am nowhere” or “I am now here”?

Let’s explore and learn from this a little more…

When you see the words “I am nowhere” – what happens to your energy?   How powerful do you feel?   How motivated are you to take action?

Now – contrast that with your response when you see the words “I am now here”.

When you see the words “I am now here” – what happens to your energy?   How powerful do you feel?   How motivated are you to take action?

That being said, did anything on your computer screen change?   Did the IAMNOWHERE letters magically move around or change color so as to produce the shift in your energy, power and ability to act?

Of course not!

The ONLY thing that changed was how you SAW them!   The EXTERNALS didn’t change in the least!

What changed - and what made a difference in terms of your sense of empowerment (or disempowerment) - was how you SAW the externals!   The thought you had - your perception - changed and that made all the difference in the world!

Here’s my point - and it’s the same point I emphasized repeatedly in my training this past weekend.

If you’ve been thinking (even subconsciously) that when you are making $$$$ money in your business, THEN you’ll feel confident, empowered and abundant - you’ve got it backwards.

If you’re thinking that making the next level in your compensation plan, getting out of debt, quitting the job you hate, moving into your dream house, etc. etc. is what’s going to have you feel confident, empowered and abundant - you’re saying that the Externals Create the Internals!  Not only is that the EXACT OPPOSITE of how things work - it’s a SET-UP for scarcity.

Changing the externals is not what’s going to make the biggest difference in terms of you experiencing scarcity and/or abundance.  What WILL make the difference is how you PERCEIVE those externals (current and future) and what you THINK about them.

One of the oldest and most powerful principles of success and abundance tells us this…

What you FOCUS on the most is where your energy will flow and is what will show up and grow in your life.

So, my friend, my question for you today is this…

What are you FOCUSING on in your business and your life?  Are you focusing on scarcity, not enough and “I am nowhere”?

Or are you SEEING things differently… focusing on the progress, success and abundance you’ve already experienced?

Are you judging your current actions, progress, and results as “not enough” and “nowhere” - or are you able to drop your judgment and see your “reality” in a way that empowers you to take action, i.e., “I am now here”?

This one shift (which you can consciously train yourself to make) will have a huge impact in your business and all areas of your life.

So much so that I’m going to continue focusing on it (no pun intended!) in my next blog.

Until then, begin paying attention to your FOCUS and how you are SEEING yourself and your results, i.e., “I Am Nowhere” or “I Am Now Here”?

The choice is yours.  Your external results do not have to change for you to feel more empowered and motivated - your internals do.

“Talk” to you soon!

What’s your thermostat set at?

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Hi there!

This morning it occurred to me that I have been “putting the cart before the horse” in most of my blog posts.

I have a tendency to do that - you know, jump right in headfirst! J

Well, this morning I realized that I have been “blogging” away now for months but NOT ONCE did I tell you why reading and learning from my blog is so important for you and your business success.  So - better late than never - let me do so now.

First, please understand that I’ve been making some assumptions about you… without checking them out.  Here are some things I’ve been ASSUMING about you.  You tell me - are they accurate?

  • I think that you want to experience and attract greater levels of success, wealth and abundance than you currently have.
  • I think you want your business to grow.
  • I’m going to bet that you want to make more money and, eventually, to experience lasting financial freedom.
  • I also think I can safely say that you want to be able to enjoy your life - while you’re growing your business and even if, one day, you stop actively growing your business.
  • I’m also willing to guess that you not only want all of these things for yourself - but that you also want your direct selling friends, associates and team members to experience the same thing.
  • Most of all, I going to guess that you’d just as soon experience these things, (i.e., success, freedom, joy, wealth and abundance) sooner versus later - with as much EASE as possible

Well - have I been assuming accurately or inaccurately?

(Seriously, please do REPLY in the box provided below and tell me if my assumptions are accurate or inaccurate!  That’s the only way I can really know what will support you!)Because - if I’ve been accurate - then I want you to know that all of this is possible - with EASE - provided you’re willing to make some shifts in how you’re approaching your business, your money and your life. And I’m not just talking in terms of your actions!  Far too often, direct sellers think that all they need to do is to take NEW, DIFFERENT and/or BETTER ACTIONS and their business will grow and thrive! (Believe me, I know this one ALL TOO WELL…and it doesn’t work!)And that’s because thinking that is in violation of one of the fundamental and universal laws that applies to the natural world - AND to your business!Simply put, it states that:

The Internals Create the Externals

Claiming it for yourself is much more empowering, however.  When you do, it sounds like this:

MY Internals Create MY Externals

In other words, all of the conscious and subconscious thoughts, beliefs, emotions, experiences and expectations you have are - bottom line - what influences the actions you do (and do not!) take.  While your actions most directly impact your results - what ultimately makes the biggest difference is not your action - is the sum total of the thoughts, energy and emotions that PRECEDE your action!

In many ways, your internals - and they may be conscious or subconscious - act like a thermostat.

If your thermostat is set for 58 degrees, it’s pretty safe to say that the temperature in the room is going to be pretty close to 58 degrees.

If you wanted the room to be warmer, you could jump into ACTION and start building fires in the fireplaces and start baking bread in the oven and, at least temporarily, it would seem to work - the room would feel warmer.

But then what would happen?

You bet!  The thermostat would take over and turn on the air conditioning and start cooling the room back down to 58 degrees!

Talk about struggle, huh?  Talk about wasting time and energy and even money, huh?

But if you simply turned the thermostat up to 68 degrees, the thermostat would turn on the heater and the room would start warming up - EASILY - and would stay warm.

Your INTERNALS (conscious AND subconscious) are like that thermostat in your life.  They impact your actions and they impact your results.

And that’s why reading and learning from this blog is so critical for your own success and that of your associates.  Because my commitment to you is to have my blog posts support you to “program your internal thermostat for abundance”.

And that will make taking the actions you’ll learn from the other DSL experts all the more powerful and effective!I’ll continue that process in my next blog post… between now and then, I highly recommend you re-read some of my earlier posts (especially the ones addressing “money messages”) to see which ones are affecting the setting of your internal thermostat!

Enjoy your day!

Teresa

Which “money messages” are impacting you?

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Okay… now it’s your turn.

In my last two blogs, I shared a couple of common “scarcity messages” and (I hope!) illustrated how they might be impacting you (incorporating and/or rebelling).  I’ve asked you to reply and let me know some of yours - so that we can “explore” them togther.

Since I haven’t heard from you, I figured that may be because you can’t think of any!

That’s why I decided to give you a bunch of messages that direct sellers often have that can limit or block their success and abundance.

Which of the messages below have you heard?  Do you think or repeat to yourself?  How do they influence you today?

  • If we had enough money, then we’d be happy.
  • If it comes too easily, something’s wrong.
  • You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
  • It’s better to give than to receive.
  • You don’t need [deserve] whatever you’re after…asking for…wanting.
  • If you don’t have it, you don’t really need it.
  • You have to work hard to get what you want in life.
  • If you want something, you have to get it yourself.
  • Money is filthy lucre/a necessary evil/the root of all evil/etc.
  • Money changes people.
  • Poverty is virtuous/noble.
  • It’s embarrassing to be rich/have lots of money.
  • People won’t love me if I’m rich - they’ll love my money.
  • Money is a headache.
  • Managing money isn’t fun.
  • Having lots of money/being rich is a hassle.
  • I’m not interested in money.
  • Money isn’t important.
  • I’ll never be rich.
  • There’s never enough money.
  • Money is the problem.
  • Rich people are shallow/callous/greedy/snobby/etc.
  • You can’t make money doing what you love.
  • Don’t be greedy.
  • It’s only money!
  • You’re not supposed to have fun making money.
  • Don’t worry about money.
  • Don’t get your hopes up and set yourself up for disappointment or failure.

Did any of these strike a chord with you?

Are you willing now to see if and how these messages may be impacting you, your actions and your results?  Which ones have you incorporated?  Which are you rebelling against?

Let me know what comes up for you - questions, comments or messages you’d like me to write about in future blogs.

Just remember, until you become aware of the “scarcity messages” that are influencing you, you can’t do anything to change the way you think and the actions and results that follow.

Awareness is ALWAYS the first step…

“Scarcity Message #2″: You can’t go out and play until your work is done”

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

This is a message I heard all the time growing up!

Funny thing, I still hear it all the time from the people I coach and train - especially direct sellers!

While this message may not deal with money directly, it has a direct influence on the abundance or scarcity you experience in all areas of your life – especially as a direct seller.

If you’ve incorporated this message into your life “verbatim”, you probably work hard in your business - but rarely let yourself relax and have fun.  When you do, you probably feel guilty because “you should be working on your business” and you think of “all that you need to do”.  You might be perceived as a “workaholic” or, at the least, you limit the amount of fun you have because your work is never done.

But let’s get real.  As an adult AND as a direct seller, when is your work completely done?

The problem that results from accepting this message (even subconsciously) is this.  When work and business consumes our lives and we do not give ourselves the opportunity to have fun and recreate (i.e., “re-create” ourselves), we do not experience the abundance we say we want.  We experience burnout, deprivation and scarcity instead.

You might even expect your associates and team members to do the same thing - and think they’re “not dedicated enough” or “serious enough” if they don’t work as hard as you.  In subtle ways, you might even make them feel guilty if they’re not working as hard as you.

Given “The Law of Attraction” principle that “like attracts like”, keep in mind that your workaholism, scarcity, burnout and deprivation will likely attract more of the same.

After all, given how hard you work and how little fun you truly let yourself enjoy - would YOU (looking from the outside) want to join your business and be part of your team?

But accepting this message is not the only way it can influence you and impact your abundance.

Believe me, I know! I can be downright rebellious at times - especially with messages like this.

If you “rebel” against this message, you may be determined to have fun “no matter what” and, as a result, you do not do the work that is necessary for your business to grow and thrive - for you to experience the abundance you say you want.

If you are rebelling against this message, you may be living with the motto of “I’m not going to start to work until I’m done having fun”.  Of course, because having fun can be so addictive and you never have “enough fun”, a lot of necessary and important work will not get done, e.g., making phone calls, doing your bookkeeping, prospecting, work around your home, exercise, etc..

Just like avoiding fun can result in scarcity, so can avoiding work.  And, of course, since having fun sometimes costs money, you can often experience the added scarcity of debt when you rebel against this old (and inaccurate) message.

Again, I don’t know how or if this message is influencing you - consciously or subconsciously - in the ways I’ve described.  But look and see.

Because until you become aware of the influence this (and other “scarcity messages”) has on you, you can’t do anything to reclaim your power from it.

In truth, the “abundance message” includes BOTH. You need to work to grow your business and you need to relax, have fun and “play” in your life at the same time.

As always, I’d love to hear what you discover and/or other “messages” you realize you have - as well as any questions.  Simply send me a message in the “reply” box below and I’ll get back to you.

Now… go and have some FUN today!

“Scarcity Message #1″: Money is hard to come by…

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Hi there! If our thoughts (conscious or subconscious) impact our actions and results, I think it’s time we start “digging in” to see what “scarcity messages” you have that are impacting you in your business and in all areas of your life.

So - how many times have you heard, thought or felt that “money is hard to come by” or something to that effect?

If so, have you stopped to recognize exactly HOW it might be influencing you and limiting your success and abundance - in your business and in your life?

Let me give you an idea of what I mean…

If you have this message and have incorporated it into your life “verbatim”, then the only way you know for making and having money is difficult, hard, and filled with struggle.

So - have you ever felt like your business is hard, that you should work harder, that it can’t be too easy?

If so, this message might be one reason why.

Have you ever “shut down” and refused to be open to possibilities to make or have money in ways that are easier, simpler or more efficient? Do you have a tendency to make things more complicated than they need be?  Or are you one of those skeptics who think that it can’t be easy?

Perhaps you’ve incorporated this message in another way.

Are you excessively frugal and “tight” with your money?  Do you have a difficult time spending any money for something you “don’t need” - that’s purely for your enjoyment?

In light of this message, that behavior would make sense - after all, if money is hard to come by, you wouldn’t want to waste it.  However, that behavior won’t necessarily result in success and abundance.

Of course, if none of these examples “resonate” with you, it could be because - unknowingly - you have been “rebelling” against the idea that “money is hard to come by.”

If so, you may experience the scarcity that comes from not even trying to have or make [more] money.  After all, if it’s hard to come by – why bother?  Who wants to do something that you know is going to be difficult and may not even be successful?

Maybe you got into your direct selling business because you thought it was going to be an “easy” way to make a lot of money.  Then, when you discovered you actually might have to WORK at your business, your interest quickly waned.

If you are rebelling against this message, you may be constantly looking for the “easy” ways to make money, e.g., gambling, lotteries, “get rich quick schemes”.  You may even be avoiding taking those necessary (but often difficult) money-producing actions in your business - you know, like making phone calls on a consistent basis, asking people for the sale or the booking, etc.

Because of your “rebelliousness” against any “hard work” that may be required for making money, you might spend a lot of money and/or time looking for ways to make your business EASY or, if that fails, then moving from one business to another to another - looking for the one that will be “easy”.

Do you want to know the ironic thing about all of this rebelliousness, my friend?

It’s the fact that all of your rebellion has, quite possibly, actually made money hard for you to come by!

You know, it’s that whole “what you resist, persists” idea…  :-(

Now - there’s no way I can know if this message is influencing you in any of the ways I’ve described or in other ways.  I just offer these examples to give you some ideas.  What matters is that you start to pay attention to your thoughts, actions and results - that you start to become aware.

Why?

Because until you become aware of the “scarcity messages” that are influencing you, you can’t do anything to change the way you think and the actions and results that follow.

So, start to pay attention. Is this message influencing you and your business?  If so, in what ways?

As always, I’d love to hear what you discover and/or other “messages” you realize you have - as well as any questions.  Simply reply below.

I’ll either address the questions or comments I receive or highlight another scarcity message that shows up A LOT for direct sellers in my next blog.

Until then, practice becoming AWARE of the thoughts and messages that are influencing you!

Enjoy your day!

Are You a “Money Conformist” or “Money Rebel”?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Hi there!   I’m SO glad you’re reading this because in it I’m going to continue to talk about one of my FAVORITE subjects…

MONEY… and the relationship you have with it (even if you’re not aware of it)!

In my last blog, I suggested that one of the reasons you or members of your team may not be experiencing the prosperity and abundance you desire is because the relationship you have with MONEY (conscious or subconscious) has been created by the scarcity-based “money messages” you’ve absorbed and reinforced over the course of your lifetime.

These “money messages” can influence you and impact your actions and results in one of two ways (or both).   At a conscious or subconscious level, you may have accepted and incorporated a message into your life “verbatim”.

For example, let’s say that you grew up with the “message” (spoken or implied) that “you can’t make money doing something you love”.  If you accepted this message (even at a subconscious level), then - even though you love your direct selling business - you probably won’t make much money at it (and maybe even despite your efforts and for no apparent reason).

However, in the work I do with people, the reason is QUITE APPARENT!  It’s because this old message is influencing you - you’ve accepted it at some level - and you might not even be aware of it!  Your results then confirm the original message.

The other way a “money message” could impact you and your success is when you rebel against it, i.e., all of your energy is spent avoiding, resisting or acting out a “not that” response to the old message.

Using the same message, i.e, “you can’t make money doing something you love”, this may show up in your life as a pattern that has you only willing to do things you love no matter what the results.  You may have an attitude of “if I can’t do something I love, then I won’t do it”.  The only problem is that, taken to an extreme, doing what you love may not result in you making the money you want.

Case in point…

Think about all of the phone calls you need to make to grow a successful business.  Now think of all the days you “aren’t in the mood” or “don’t want to make phone calls”.  Maybe you HATE making phone calls.  Yet making phone calls are necessary actions for you in your business - at least if you want to make money and experience financial abundance.  Thus, to make money, you need to do something you don’t love - and you might rebel.

Are you getting the idea????Remember what I said in my last blog, i.e., unless and until you become aware of your “money messages” and the influence they have over you, you can’t do anything to change them or REALLY change your results.

Which is exactly why, my friend, I’m going to use my next few blogs to support you to start recognizing some of the specific “money messages” that might be blocking or limiting your abundance!

I have LOTS of “examples” I can write about - and I will.

But, trust me, it will be much more empowering for you (and fun for me!) if you email me some of your own “money messages” by replying below… Just start paying attention to the thoughts, messages and beliefs you have about money and how they might be influencing you, post them (below) and we’ll take it from there!I look forward to hearing from you!

Enjoy your day!
